In my life, I have been fortunate to study with top-level instructors in the disciplines of yoga, music, and the martial arts. I've been teaching yoga professionally for over 20 years, so I'm pretty picky now about the people that teach me. Theresa Scout is truly one of the best instructors I've ever had, in any discipline. Theresa clearly loves horses and loves riding, and she passes her own enthusiasm on to her students. She always stays connected to the big picture; each lesson moves me closer to my overall goals. Sometimes Theresa focuses on details, sometimes the broad sweep -- with each lesson, my capability and confidence grow. Sometimes I feel challenged to go beyond my perceived limits and it's so exhilarating to realize that I can do so much more than I thought I could! At the same time, I always feel safe, having learned when it's important to back off and find the right level of relaxation. Theresa is a great coach precisely because she guides me to develop my own sensitivity, intelligence, and courage, which I tap into not only as a rider, but in every aspect of my life.

My daughter Erin has been riding since age three and I have been observing the positive impact of this sport on her development. Horseback riding helped her learn to care for animals, gain a sense of responsibility and develop self discipline. Now that she is older and taking more responsibilities and duties at the barn, I also observe her becoming a dependable worker and a good role model to young riders. I attribute her achievement to Maypine Farm and its professional trainers who provided not only safe and fun environment but also excellent training.

I have ridden at Maypine Farm since 2005, and my experience with everyone there has been an extremely rewarding one. After a 25-year absence from riding, I can honestly say that I couldn't have picked a better facility. When I decided to re-learn my skills and again participate in a riding program, I visited other barns and lesson programs in the area. They did not seem to provide the same quality of horse care, nor did they seem to have the level of instructor experience and the attention to client satisfaction, The overall impact that riding at Maypine has had on me is being able to rediscover a passion for a sport in which I had successfully competed for over 20 years and, just as important, the additional benefit of making new friends. At the end of the day, my experience at Maypine is one of a renewed sense of accomplishment and confidence in a sport that can be taken up as a child or an adult.
